Rural Tourism in Cantabria, Spain.
Mountains, valleys, rivers, stone towns and a sea that is constantly breaking against the cliffs of the coast.
With so much to see and do, it seems as if there is never any peace and calm in Cantabria.
However, it is the most tranquil land, where peace comes out from behind every small hill, the streets of Santillana del Mar, the Altamira Caves and the Valleys of Lamason, Nansa and Saja.Cantabrian food, like that of most regions in Spain, is wonderful.
Be sure to try the locally caught fish, the famous Cantabrian stew (Cocido Montañes), Cantabrian Style Cheesecake, and typical Cantabrian pastry (Sobaos Pasiegos).
The region also has great cheese and orujo liquors. Take note of the occasional Ruta del Pincho (tapas route), which are held throughout the region. Most offer a glass of wine, beer, or grape juice (mosto) with a delicious pincho for around two euros. It’s a great way to get to learn about Cantabrian gastronomy!
