Torrevieja Folk Club at Rocajuna
This Folk Club is held every Tuesday in the downstairs bar at Rocajuna,
Rocajuna is a turning off the N332 if going in the direction of Villamartin having just left the duel carriageway around Torrevieja. Look out for the Torrejoven hotel on the left and it is a turning just before the hotel at Punta Prima. It is the next turn past Rojos Chinese Restaurant on the right hand side ! This fairly well attended English Folk Club is run by the well known all round artiste Smithy and his wife Carol. A little of Smithy can be seen on his web site. http://www.myspace.com/smithy50 This Folk Club meets every Tuesday, at 8.30 and anyone wishing to sing, play an instrument, tell a story or just come and listen are welcome. Every 8 weeks they fly a professional guest in from the UK, admission on these nights are by ticket only. This folk club operates Acoustically and, of course, to the purist this is the way all folk clubs should operate. However the average guest who goes on stage, apart from being often nervous, it is usually very hard to hear them very clearly if you are not in the front rows.. It is, in this day and age, a shame that organisers of these clubs do not do more to encourage artistes to at least have some amplification available and guide them on its use when they go on stage to recite their much loved and cherished ditty or sing a song. It is, of course, also applicable to instruments, but only in a very minor way. Acoustics have in Folk clubs been a problem for many years and this has helped to close down so many clubs over the years in England. Please DO NOT let it happen here !!
