Dolores is about 10/15 mins inland and is easily accessible from the coastal town of Guardamar

(the nearest beach to Dolores) turning off the N332 following the signs for Rojales then Dolores.  Dolores is essentially an agricultural village growing fruit and vegetables and is also known for its cattle raising.  The livestock fair held in Dolores each year attracts some of the most elite and reputable cattle owners and plays host to hundreds of equestrian lovers watching dressage and show jumping competitions.  Dolores’ pretty village square,  surrounded by businesses and coffee shops, is centred around the church which exhibits exquisite paintings/sculptors which can be viewed as people pass away the afternoon.  All essential amenities are close by as well as a lively weekly street market on Fridays where you can buy locally grown goods.

Mid September is the Fiesta of de Agosto it features a Spanish Horse contest.  More than 1,500 horses are shown each year in all sorts of games and activities.  Cattle and dogs contests are also held at the fair.  The Fiesta also includes a carriage parade, the running of a variety of small cows and bulls fully decorated. The procession is to honour the Virgin de los Dolores (Virgin of Sorrows), the patron Saint of the village. 

The typical cuisine of Dolores takes advantage of the fresh vegetables available in the area (artichokes, beans), and also includes plenty of meat and seafood. The most typical dish is "cocido con pelotas", which includes meatballs and potato and chickpea stew. There are also many fresh fruits such as melons, watermelons, oranges, and apricots. An open-air market is held every Friday morning where the local produce is sold.
