The
Band is just that, a band of friends making music. Everyone has
something to give, which is why it was not named after one person.
There are many excellent jazz players living either permanently or
semi-permanently in the Southern Costa Blanca, but very few have the
ability, knowledge or indeed the inclination to play in a style started
around the time of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band in 1917, through
Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and similar musicians in the 1920s to the
English players of the 50s and modern times. The 3Bs are still playing,
Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk and Chris Barber, along with other names from
our youth. The band was lucky to have found clarinettist, Roy Hubbard,
whose knowledge and experience of the original tunes is second to none.

This style of music is perhaps no longer in vogue as can be seen by the
general ages of the band members, and certainly is not taught at Music
Colleges in Britain or Spain along with other light music, but few
other types of music can have had people dancing from the age range of
2 years old to 82 years old. When in February 2008 the Band were
offered a concert in The Theatre in San Fulgencio where they might play
to a wider audience, the members jumped at the chance. The concert was
a sell-out and was the success of the season.
This music has a vibrance which harks back to the Speakeasies, Gambling
Dens and Bordellos of the USA in the earlier part of the 20th century.
Not only that, but it’s entertaining, foot-tapping and fun as well!!!
